Fabulous at 40 Templemere celebrated its 40th Ruby anniversary on Saturday, September 6, with a garden party and barbecue for residents past and present. Festivities included a 'Red' fancy dress parade, afternoon tea, children's entertainments, an 'open garden' event, barbecue, disco and firework finale. The main lawn was thronging with people all afternoon and late into the evening and everyone appeared to be relaxed and enjoying themselves. Original residents including George and Betty Annesley and Steve Tilley were joined by many of their former neighbours, several of whom took the opportunity to visit their old homes and gardens. And most seemed thrilled at how little Templemere had changed.
www.templemere.co.uk has been launched as part of our
40th anniversary celebrations. Although in its infancy, we hope you agree
it looks suitably 'cutting edge' and will be a useful tool for residents
and other interested parties. The site is divided into sections to appeal to home-owners and would-be residents, architects and Span enthusiasts, journalists, estate agents, and location finders. In our first year, it has been necessary to keep the format and the content quite simple but we are hoping to add to it on a regular basis on both fronts. We are currently working on getting the site listed on the major search engines such as 'Google', and on links with other related local and national sites - other Span estates, estate agents, local chambers of commerce etc. If any of you graphic designers out there have access to Dreamweaver software and would like to help with the regular updates and improvements we would be very grateful for your expertise. Please contact Clare Baxter on 843078 or email clare.baxter@macunliimited.net
Our next social event, the annual carol singing on the main lawn takes place on Monday December 15 at approximately 7pm. As usual we will be joined by the Treble Clef Singers for some festive singing, eating and drinking. There will also be a visit from Father Christmas for the younger children. Mulled wine will be supplied but any contributions of mince pies, sausage rolls etc. would be very gratefully received.
All work on the new aerial system has now been completed satisfactorily and everyone should be receiving a good picture. However, if you experience any problems, please report them to Ann Burrows at number 24 (856070) rather than trying to deal with them yourself. Only problems reported in this way can be rectified by Capital Aerials and paid for by the Society. Work commissioned independently must be paid for by the individual resident. If you are unsure as to whether the problem is aerial related, please contact Ann who will be happy to check for you.
There was a good deal of debate at the AGM about the
necessity/desirability of gates at the front of the estate. Although
response to our initial questionnaire was negative, several residents
expressed an interest in canvassing further
We are pleased to announce that Roger Scott is to take over as the Society's accountant in January, following the resignation of Robert Bantoft. Mr Scott is a retired bank manager, has experience of managing another estate Weybridge, and is Treasurer for the Weybridge Male Voice Choir. We are also very happy that Robert has agreed to remain as a committee member, sitting on various sub-committees and will keep his position as Honorary Treasurer, in order to comply with Society regulations. Mr Scott will receive a small remuneration from Templemere funds.
The schedule for next year is as follows. Window cleaning w/c -
January 5 2004 All dates subject to weather conditions.
Just a timely and polite reminder to parents to ensure that toys and bicycles are removed from the paths and lawns after dark. There are several places on the estate where the lighting is not particularly good and it is easy to stumble over these items if they are left out. Please also tidy rubbish into the bin behind the bench.
Following the long, hot summer a new taskforce' has
been set up to ensure that our estate gardens are returned to their former
glory. This is necessarily a long and expensive process as many shrubs
were lost during the drought and there is a good deal of remedial work
to be undertaken on the lawns. There is also work to be carried out on
various parts of A schedule of work has been drawn up, with the most urgent work being carried out prior to Christmas. This includes replacing vast swathes of heathers that were destroyed as well as a good deal of ivy, both ground cover and climbing that was either damaged or has become too invasive. The idea is to plant more shrub and ground cover varieties that were present on the original planting scheme such as lavender, hypericum, euonymus and cotinus and climbers like hydrangea petiolaris and pyracantha. A specialist lawn contractor has been appointed to renovate the lawn, with aeration and feeding due to take place in the first week of December. The aeration (with a hollow tine machine) will result in cores of turf being removed at very regular intervals and deposited on the lawn. The resultant holes will allow feed down to the roots and the cores will quickly be broken down by the rain and reabsorbed. The lawns will undoubtedly look rather unsightly for a few weeks but we will see the benefit in the Spring when the new growth emerges and further feeding will take place.
The trees on the estate (rather than the woods) have
been inspected recently and a list of necessary work has been sent to
the Council in order to comply with the rules on tree preservation orders
(TPOs) of which we have many. Once approved, the work will be carried
out in order of priority over the next year. Garage(s) for sale There is a freehold garage for immediate in the block at the front of the estate. Contact Geoffrey Kemp at number 46 (844850). A further garage in this block may become available in the New Year. To register an early interest, please contact Robert Bantoft at number 29 (830682).
